The professional costing of the whole film was an important exercise and this figure of well over £50,000 was a sum we knew we could never raise. However we felt that this unique project was too special to Lincolnshire for us to be daunted.
Key members of WAG Screen agreed to put their time in free.
Support from the two local universities, Bishop Grosseteste University College, and Lincoln University have given us strong foundations. The former has given us a working budget with which to proceed and the latter has given us a budget for their resources which will help us achieve our high production values.
We have been seeking sponsors for the replica items that will be used in the film and the Lincolnshire Co-op has just given us a generous grant towards these costs. Cool Milk at School has also sponsored the mediaeval glazed jugs and milk pails. Although most of these costs are now covered, we are still seeking funding for one or two remaining items, for example the medieval spinning wheel. All of these items will be part of a four month long exhibition at The Collection (from next May), and many will remain on permanent display at other local museums thereafter. Each will bear the name of the sponsor. Almost all of these items will have been made by local craftspeople
Loven (Patents and Trade Marks), has given us studio space to use for the duration of the project and North Kesteven District Council has paid for a facsimile copy of the Luttrell psalter. Ruddocks of Lincoln has financed the re-creation of a Psalter page, on parchment, by a local craftsman from the Lindsay Scribes. Mr and Mrs A Roberts from Woodhall Spa have given us a generous sum towards our costs and Denby have also donated a sum towards the completion of the film.
But the most unusual aspect of our funding approach is to do an exchange of skills instead of money. For example, we are paying for the use of the Saxon House as a location with reproduction Anglo-Saxon clothing made by Pauline. Church Farm Museum and other places are being rewarded for their help with short educational or promotional films made by Nick and Chris. As well as becoming part of the resources available to the museums some of these films go up on You Tube to publicise the individuals, museums or sites in question. We also put pages up on our web site and create links to other sites.
We do not ask for anything without doing something in return - so please get in touch if you can help us and we can help you. Any donation, no matter how small goes a long way! You can contact us on 01522 833265 or email us on mail@wagscreen.co.uk. Many thanks.
